Learn to Burn
Discover fire’s role in conserving prairies, woodlands and wetlands at the “Learn to Burn” training class hosted by The Land Conservancy on March 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Hennen Conservation Area in Woodstock.
Participants will experience detailed training related to prescribed burns by The Land Conservancy’s ecologist Melissa Grycan. Those attending will work indoors and outdoors, and are encouraged to dress accordingly. A classroom training session will occur first, followed by an outdoors hands on workshop.
Prescribed burns clear away dead brush and invasive species while ensuring healthy habitats. Grycan will discuss important ecological benefits, specific tools and safety measures related to prescribed burns. Safety equipment will be provided for participants.
Attendees can register for the workshop at ConserveMC.org or by calling 815-337-9502. The fee for the workshop is $35 for Land Conservancy members, and $50 for non-members. Anyone interested in prescribed burns is encouraged to attend.
