The Service League Of Crystal Lake's 36th Annual Housewalk (9:00 AM - 6:00 PM)
Save the date! Planning is underway for our next Walk, where you will tour four fabulous private homes. There are two options: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Service League would like to thank all those who visited our 2009 Housewalk event. Don Guzan Photography Photo Exhibit At Inspired Art Studio (5:00 PM)
Chicago native, Don 'Dplantmann' Guzan will have his first solo photography exhibit at the Inspired Art Studio during the month of September. Guzan is an award winning artist and published photographer. Guzan, a man of many talents is a Master Gardener, Animal Behaviorist, Patented Inventor, Landscape Designer, Landscape Industry Consultant and owner of Root Feeders Inc., a Landscape Design, Installation and Consultation Company located in Spring Grove. Guzan also hosts the Dplantmann Show on WKRS 1220 AM, Saturday mornings, dispensing horticultural and landscaping advice. Additionally, Guzan gives continuing education and professional educational presentations throughout Northern Illinois and Southeast Wisconsin, while teaching college level courses at The College of Lake County and McHenry County College, as an adjunct horticultural instructor. The exhibit will be open to the public two consecutive weekends, Fridays, September 3rd &10th from 5 PM to 9 PM &Saturdays, September 4th &11th from 1 PM to 6 PM. The Inspired Art Studio is located at 1316 Spring Beach Way, Cary. Additional studio hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 AM to 4 PM and by appointment.

HAHS Picnic And Fun Horse Show (All Day)
The HAHS Picnic and Fun Horse Show will provide a family-fun environment by hosting a fall picnic, accompanied with games, both pony and wagon rides, entertainment, and delicious food.   

All proceeds of the HAHS Picnic and Fun Horse Show go toward feeding, medicating, and rehabilitating the once-neglected or abused HAHS horses. HAHS receives no federal or state support. The organization is dependent upon contributions from fund-raising activities, membership donations, grants and endowment gifts.

Armed Forces Tribute Car Show (11:00 AM - 3:00 PM)

The village of Oakwood Hills will host a classic car show Saturday.

Registration for cars, motorcycles and trucks is from 9 to 11 a.m. Admission is free.

The event, dubbed the Armed Forces Tribute Car Show, is a fundraiser for construction of a village tribute to past, present and future soldiers that will be located at Oakwood Hills Village Hall. Those showing cars in the event are asked to make a $15 donation, said John Theiss, Oakwood Hills village president.

The show will feature trophies in several categories, including kids' choice, police chief's choice (most likely to be pulled over), president's choice and participants' choice. A combat-flown U.S. flag will be raffled. Music and food will be provided by Tony V's.

The show will be at Oakwood Hills Park.

Archeological Awareness (12:00 PM - 4:00 PM)

12–4 p.m. Try your hand at throwing an atlatl and pretend you are on a prehistoric big-game hunt during McHenry County Conservation District’s Archeological Awareness event. Drop in anytime between 12 – 4 p.m., archaeologists will be on hand to describe how these prehistoric technologies are discovered and interpreted and to share a time-line of the prehistoric past. Examples of artifacts will be on display including some of those found at the Powers-Walker house. Flintknappers, stone grinders, cordage makers and other prehistoric skills will be demonstrated. Additionally, a mounted cavalryman will explain the archaeology of Little Big Horn. Powers-Walker House in Glacial Park, 6201 Harts Rd. in Ringwood.

Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk (10:00 AM - 12:00 PM)

This is a fun event with vendors, kids corner, and raffle prizes! The event takes place at Sunset Park in Lake in the Hills (5200 Miller Rd). Registration @ 8:30, walk kicks off @ 10 am (1.5 miles). Memory Walk is a national fundraiser for programs and services to help people with Alzheimer’s, their families and caregivers.  The route is stroller and wheelchair accessible, and dogs on leashes are welcome!

The Alzheimer's Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer care, support and research. All donations are eligible for tax deduction. Thank you for your support!

3rd Annual Bike-a-Thon Benefits PADS (All Day)
This annual bike-a-thon will be on the trails of Moraine Hills State Park in McHenry, Pike Marsh Site. The bike-a-thon is designed for riders of all levels – from pleasure riders to enthusiasts. After the ride, stay awhile at the park to enjoy music, silent auction, raffles, lunch and activities for the kids. A barbecue lunch and T-shirts will be provided to those raising $150 or more in pledges. Woodstock Harvest Fest And Fair In The Square (All Day)

Norge Ski Club will be holding its Annual Summer K70 Ski Jump Tournament on September 19th, 2010. Gates open at 11:00 am Sunday and the Tournament begins at 12:00 pm. Football season is just around the corner, and Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Hanie is gearing up for the 2010 season as he steps into the kitchen to make his culinary creation Confetti Spaghetti Squash. Hanie is sure to bring some heat into the kitchen as he does on the field while he creates a signature dish for the crowd on Monday, September 20, 2010, at the McHenry Meijer store, located at 2253 N. Richmond Rd. Accompanying Hanie will be Meijer Healthy Living Advisor Kristen Johnson. Caleb Hanie will cook up a storm from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. and sign autographs from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. The first 200 people to arrive starting at 3 p.m. at the McHenry store will receive a wristband that ensures an autograph from Caleb Hanie. Caleb Hanie previously played college football for Colorado State and was signed by the Chicago Bears in 2008. In his only preseason game against the Chargers, Hanie completed 10 of 17 passes for 148 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception.

“Fall Festival Of Golf” Women’s Golf Outing (All Day)

Stargazers Ball: A Celebration Of Raue Center's 10th Anniversary (6:30 PM)

Dance the night away to the sounds of the Anthony Kawalkowski Orchestra and a brief auction of select items will be included in the evening’s celebration. This black and white gala is an annual fundraiser for Raue Center.

Art Of The Land Benefit Art Show (6:30 PM)
The Art of the Land Benefit Art Show will feature work inspired by the land and people who work the land from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Starline Building (306 Front St. in Harvard). The benefit will include original works by more than 25 local artists and artisans – all for sale, with 30 percent of the sale price going to support The Land Conservancy’s land preservation work in McHenry County. In addition to the art show, more than 70 entries for the Second Annual Art of the Land Photography Contest will be displayed. Behr Metal Recycling in Woodstock is sponsoring the contest for the second year, providing cash awards: $100 (1st); $50 (2nd); $25 (3rd).

Tee To Tea Women’s Golf Outing (All Day)
Join the Adult & Child Rehab Center's women's golf outing. This year, the event will be held at McHenry Country Club (820 N. John St. in McHenry). The day will include a light breakfast and refreshments; nine holes of golf; wine and food samples on course; silent auction; and a high tea. Bid on a caddie for foursomes during the caddie auction. Since 1949, the rehab center has provided programs and services – such as physical, occupational and speech therapies, as well as home health care – to aid its clients in achieving their maximum potential.
