Midwest Wall Design: Wall-to-Wall Beauty

Every room in Nancy Hughes’ home features a unique blend of Midwest Wall Design’s custom design capabilities with her personal touches.

It all began in the master bathroom of Nancy Hughes’ Del Webb, Huntley, home. The wallpaper was peeling, so she looked to Midwest Wall Design owner Joe Kempfer for his professional advice. Kempfer could have fixed it, but knew he couldn’t guarantee how long it would last because he didn’t hang the original wallpaper.

But Kempfer — with more than 35 years in the custom design painting field and hundreds of available designs — had a vision for the walls. And Hughes had faith. The result is a bathroom transformed into a silver-sage haven brightened by metallic overlay and accented with white gardenias stenciled in Venetian plaster. Hughes never looked back. After a year of collaboration, every wall of her home is complete, along with many newly painted fixtures, a revamped canvas art piece and a refinished bedroom set — all thanks to Kempfer.

Today, her entire main floor is a showcase of Kempfer’s custom wall designs accented by Hughes’ collections, art, family photos (she has three sons and five grandchildren), her late husband’s handcrafted clocks and eclectic decor she’s picked up here and there. It’s all tied together with several furnishings and window treatments by Mueller Interiors Inc. (Crystal Lake) and Interior Motives and More (Huntley).

Hughes had the benefit of several professionals in her corner making her dream home come true, but if it wasn’t for her input and open-mindedness, she would still be living with peeling wallpaper and beige walls.
