McHenry County ranks 4th healthiest county in Illinois, according to 2016 study.
McHenry County ranks 4th healthiest county in Illinois – up from 13th in 2015 – according to the 2016 County Health Rankings by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin. The County Health Rankings measure vital health factors.
Some highlights from the study:
- 4,800 years of potential life before age 75 were lost in McHenry County – significantly lower than the statewide average of 6,300. In other words, fewer people are dying prematurely in McHenry County.
- 95 percent of county residents had access to opportunities to exercise (Illinois average was 89 percent).
- Teen pregnancy was less common, with 15 births per 1,000 females between the ages of 15 and 19 (Illinois average was 33).
- Further, high school graduation rates were high; and the percentage of children in poverty, children in single-parent households and the number of violent crimes all were well below the Illinois average.
