McHenry County Memorial Day remembrance events.
Memorial Day Ceremony, 10:30 a.m., Riverfront Park, 201 N. Harrison St., Algonquin, with an opening prayer, guest speakers and patriotic songs. A wreath will be laid in the water and a POW/MIA flag placed over an empty chair. There also will be a 21-gun salute, followed by the playing of echo taps by Jacobs High School students. The ceremony will end with a closing prayer.
Memorial Day Parade, 10:15 a.m., Holy Cross Lutheran Church, First Street and Three Oaks Road, Cary, followed by a ceremony at Cary Veterans Park and end before noon.
Cary-Grove Amvets Flags at Windridge, 5 to 6 p.m. May 26, Windridge Memorial Park, 7014 S. Rawson Bridge Road, Cary.
Memorial Day Parade & Cemetery Service, Crystal Lake Central High School, east on Franklin Avenue, north on Williams Street and west on Woodstock Street to Union Cemetery for a memorial service conducted by Crystal Lake American Legion Post 171.
Memorial Day Service, 10 a.m., The Fountains at Crystal Lake, Service Member’s Club, includes cake and coffee.
Fox River Grove
Memorial Day Parade, 8:30 a.m., starting at Algonquin Road School, 975 Algonquin Road, Fox River Grove, down Algonquin Road to South River Road to the baseball diamond at Lions Park for a program.
Memorial Day Ceremony, 10 a.m., Mount Auburn Cemetery, 20501 E. Brink St., Harvard. Rainout location is the Harvard High School gym.
Memorial Day Service, 9:30 a.m., Tygard Gymnasium, Alden-Hebron High School, 9604 Illinois St., Hebron. Hosted by American Legion Post 606.
Memorial Day Parade, 11 a.m., Huntley Municipal Complex, 10987 Main St., west on Main Street to the Huntley Square Gazebo for a brief ceremony. Sponsored by the American Legion Post 673. Information: Patrick Conley, 847-802-8280, email@example.com or 847-669-8485.
Memorial Day Ceremony & Parade, 9 a.m., starting at the Waterfront Hotel & Marina by the Chapel Hill Bridge, Johnsburg. A river wreath ceremony will be conducted to honor fallen naval officers. Flying aircraft again are part of the ceremonies. Parade follows the ceremony to the Johnsburg Community Club for an Armed Forces Memorial. A baseball game will follow. Food and beverages will be served picnic-style. Antique and military vehicles also will be on display.
Memorial Day Programs: 8 a.m., Riley Cemetery; 8:15 a.m., Maple Street Cemetery; 9 a.m., Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery; 9:15 a.m., Calvin Spencer Park; 10:40 a.m., Marengo City Cemetery. The Marengo High School Band will perform for the public at 10:15 a.m., in front of the Marengo Fire Department, prior to marching with the Legion to the city cemetery for a 10:40 a.m. remembrance.
Memorial Day Ceremony: 10 a.m., Veterans Memorial Park, 3400 Pearl St., McHenry, with a brief parade and placement of the ceremonial wreath at St. Patrick’s Cemetery and in the Fox River, concluding with taps and a rifle salute.
Memorial Day Service, 10:30 a.m., Stevens Park, Broadway and Main streets, Richmond.
Memorial Day Ceremony, 9 a.m., a short procession parade from the Spring Grove Fire Department to Horse Fair Park followed by a ceremony.
Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony, 8 a.m., in front of the Union Fire Department, 6606 Main St., Union, doughnuts and coffee available to the public, with bicycle judging at 8:30 a.m. At 9 a.m., the parade will start at the Union Fire Department to the cemetery for a ceremony.
Memorial Day Ceremony & Parade, 10 a.m., Woodstock Square, ceremony followed immediately by the annual parade.
