A Smoothie Shop & More
Discover Berries and Greens, a new Crystal Lake smoothie shop focused on holistic wellness.
There is a new kid in town: Berries and Greens Organic Juicery is a new smoothie bar near Route 14 and Pingree Road in Crystal Lake. This family-owned business run by Jill and Donald Kaptur, Brandon Fritz and Jackie Aikin is filling the need for a place that offers healthy, organic smoothies and food in McHenry County.
The journey to opening the business was personal.
“We came together with a mission to bring the community together and heal people from the inside out,” Jill explained. “I was addicted to sugar and fast food and did not feel well.”
After working with a naprapathic physician, she cleaned up her diet and change her life. “When you put bad stuff in your body, you feel bad,” she said.
Opening this business was a way for her to share all she has learned. Education is a big part of what they want to offer the community. “Having access to healthy options makes it easier for people to eat healthier,” Jill explained.
The Kapturs are adamant about the benefits of eating clean, organic and nutrient-dense food as the best way for healing. They want to educate people on the benefits of fresh whole food and help people live healthier lives.

The store provides a haven of healthy food in Crystal Lake from gluten-free and sugar-free to raw and vegan options with new items coming in regularly. They also offer daily detox cleanses, local honey and homemade soaps.
The shop’s main attractions are the delicious smoothies and elixirs. There are currently nine fresh organic juices and 10 smoothies to choose from. Elixirs are wheatgrass shots, healthy energy shots and immune boosters.
Not sure what to get? Soon, Berries and Greens will offer sample hours where people can test out smoothies and healthy food options. They have also started bringing in visiting practitioners in different health fields to share their wisdom with the community.
I’m honored to be one of the first experts who’s come onboard. My first “Smoothie & Meditation” class in February was a total hit (no pun intended). If you missed it, please join me for upcoming spring classes: March 16 and April 27 (see schedule for all upcoming events). What better combination then a healthy smoothie, healthy mind and relaxed body? Plus, you’re helping welcome a new local business.
