Autumn Drive’s Treasures

Autumn Drive is a fall tradition in McHenry County with treasures at every turn.

Autumn Drive is steam rising from an old-fashioned kettle corn popper. It’s a rainbow of potted mums on the roadside. It’s tables dotted with vintage wares and handmade goods. It’s tents brimming with the colors and flavors of fall. It’s artist studios and family farms opening their doors. And it’s you!

Friday, October 20 through Sunday, October 22, set your GPS to 16105 Garden Valley Road in Woodstock and see what it’s all about. The 30th annual event is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

There are 29 stops this year with something special for everyone. Discover antiques, art, crafts, pumpkin patches, apple picking, corn mazes, food, music, and even garage and barn sales, explains Robert Blue of Blue Eagle Pottery, Stop 10.

“More than 150 vendors will amaze and excite the senses with fall sights, sounds and the chills of the season,” he said. “Some stops are mini art fairs in and of themselves.”

Love all things vintage? Five antique dealers are selling more than 300 pieces of refurbished furniture.

Come hungry. Several stops will have food from the grill or kitchen. “The best Kettle Corn in the Midwest” can be found near Perkins Hall in a small village called Franklinville near Stop 9. Boy Scouts of Grace Lutheran will be selling brats and hot dogs at the Lunch Barn (Stop 17).

You can help good community causes while you’re there. Local nonprofits, church groups and schools will host fundraisers throughout the long weekend.
