Clothes Gallery Celebrates 30 Years of Resilience, Style, and Generations of Fashion Lovers

Clothes Gallery in Downtown Crystal Lake is thrilled to announce the celebration of its 30th anniversary, marking three decades of enduring style, resilience, and unwavering commitment to its customers. Since its opening in 1995, Clothes Gallery has not only weathered significant global challenges but has become a beloved destination for generations of shoppers—mothers, grandmothers, and daughters—who return time and time again for timeless fashion and personalized service.

Originally founded in 1978 by its first owner, Clothes Gallery quickly became a local favorite over the course of 17 years. In 1995, Sherree Rothstein and her husband Michael purchased both the boutique and the building it occupied at 51 North Williams St. The previous owner sold off all the inventory, leaving the Rothsteins with a blank canvas. With fresh determination, Sherree set out to create a store that would thrive for decades to come.

“We took over a store with no stock, no merchandise—just an empty space and a vision,” says Sherree Rothstein, owner of Clothes Gallery. “I started from scratch but believed in what could be created here. My goal was always to offer more than just clothing; I wanted to build relationships with our customers and offer them an experience they couldn’t find anywhere else.”

Despite facing numerous challenges along the way—including the aftermath of 9/11, the 2008 recession, and the far-reaching effects of the COVID-19 pandemic—the Rothstein’s dedication helped them push through difficult times, continuing to offer the kind of service and fashion their loyal customers loved. Clothes Gallery adapted to changing trends and consumer needs while remaining true to its classic and elegant aesthetic, blending sophistication with a touch of sass.

“We’ve had to adjust and evolve over the years,” says Sherree. “But through it all, I’ve never lost sight of what makes Clothes Gallery special: the people who shop here. We’ve seen generations of women come through our doors, and we’re proud to be part of their lives.”

The boutique’s strength lies in its loyal customers, many of whom have shopped at Clothes Gallery for years—some even for decades. Mothers, daughters, and grandmothers have formed lasting memories inside the store, from shopping for special occasions to finding the perfect gift or everyday outfit.

“Our customers are family,” says Sherree. “It’s amazing to see moms bringing in their daughters, or even grandmothers bringing in their granddaughters. They trust us to help them find something special, and over the years, we’ve built so many wonderful relationships with them.”

As Clothes Gallery celebrates this incredible 30-year milestone, it remains committed to offering timeless fashion with a modern twist, curated carefully for women who appreciate quality, style, and exceptional service. The Rothstein's are excited for what the future holds and are deeply grateful for the continued support of their community.

To mark this significant anniversary, Clothes Gallery will host a weeklong 30th Anniversary Celebration from 4/7/25 to 4/13/25, featuring exclusive offers, daily raffle prizes, and a celebration party on Saturday, April 12th. It’s a heartfelt thank you to the customers who have made Clothes Gallery their go-to shopping destination for three decades.
