To promote the release of her new historical fiction, “The Anointed One: Seth Paine, Midwest Abolitionist”, noted historian Nancy Schumm, formerly of Barrington (IL), will start her nationwide book tour in Lake Zurich Thursday, July 7 with a book signing, and end at Graceland Cemetery in Chicago on Saturday, July 9 with a cemetery marker dedication to Seth Paine, buried there.
Schumm, now living in Baltimore, notes that choosing to begin her tour where Seth realized his Utopian vision by founding Lake Zurich and played a role in the Underground Railroad in Chicago, was intentional. “I wanted to return to the places where his actions made the biggest impact. As a researcher for over 30 years on Midwest history, I found Seth Paine to have been a huge influence over many powerful financiers and politicians in the mid-1800s who had the resources to support progressive programs for the underserved in Lake County and Chicago. His vision to empower the powerless, and the risks that came with that vision, come to life in my book.”
The book signing for “The Anointed One: Seth Paine, Midwest Abolitionist” will be held at Ela Township Historical Society, 95 E. Main St., Lake Zurich, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday’s cemetery marker dedication will start at 10:00 a.m., rain or shine, at Graceland Cemetery, 4001 N. Clark St., Chicago.
“The Anointed One” will release July 1, initially available for purchase through Amazon Books. For more information on other upcoming book tours and presentations, please contact Schumm publicist Patty Charhut.
