New Hospital Opens
A new Hospital in Huntley opens August 9. Take a peek inside.
There is an unmistakable tone of excitement and elation in the voices of Centegra-Huntley Hospital staff members as they talk about opening day. After eight years of planning and building, the hospital will open its doors to the first patients on August 9.
The 384,000-square-foot, 128-bed hospital will offer southern McHenry County and northern Kane County residents state-of-the-art medical services, including Emergency Room; Cardiac Catheterization Lab; pediatric care with experts from Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital; Family Birth Center; Hip & Knee Replacement Center; and cancer care.
All of this with room to double or triple its footprint in the next 10 years if the need continues growing. Centegra expects to eventually employ about 1,000 associates at the new hospital.
Filling a Need
The $230 million hospital is particularly unique because building new hospitals is rare these days – it’s the third new hospital in Illinois in more than 35 years. “[They’re] almost unheard of,” CEO Michael S. Eesley explained, however, “Huntley has experienced a lot of growth and needed better access to health care.”
Between a surge of young families moving to the Huntley area and the Sun City active adult community, demand has grown. “There is a strong market and diverse population,” Eesley said.
In 2008, Centegra achieved a certificate of need from the state to move forward with the hospital, and the outpouring of support from Sun City and other area residents was icing on the cake.
“For a project like this, 1,500 letters of support would be considered a lot – we had 16,000,” Easley said.
Every angle was considered when planning the interior design of Centegra Huntley-Hospital from how medical staff works to how patients and their families interact with the environment and each other.
“Before any hardware and wiring was installed last winter, medical staff was here helping plan out what made sense to go where in the rooms, explained Sheila Senn, senior vice president and COO.
A bright and airy architectural design has been combined with attention to patient privacy to create a restful and healing experience. Art of all mediums from paintings to photography and glass to metal dot the hallways and waiting rooms.
Centegra has offered health services in Huntley since 2004. In 2008, it opened the Medical Office Building and Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center-Huntley at the corner of Algonquin and Haligus roads.
Today, the health campus offers Centegra Immediate Care, physician offices including Centegra Physician Care, the region’s best medical imaging and laboratory services, Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center, Centegra Healthy Living Institute and access to outpatient therapies and more. A second medical office building is currently under construction and is expected to be open in spring 2017.
