St. Patrick’s Concert
Enjoy some toe-tapping music when McHenry County College presents the popular St. Patrick’s Concert featuring Irish music, folk songs and dance at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 14 in the Luecht Conference Center.
Following a round of Irish dances from the McNulty Irish Dancers, MCC music instructor Pat Gaughan and her duet partner, Nancy Maio, will highlight the annual concert with traditional Irish favorites, ballads and instrumental tunes. Gaughan and Maio, both accomplished musicians in their own right, have collaborated their musical talents, presenting programs of traditional Irish music, folk, and original compositions. They have performed throughout the Midwest, playing at clubs, festivals, colleges, and headlining concert series. As a duo they combine Gaughan’s rich voice and intricate guitar playing with Maio’s instrumental virtuosity on the fiddle. Maio teaches violin and performs with several local orchestras including the Racine Symphony, the Festival City Symphony, and the Wisconsin Philharmonic. In addition, she is sought after as an Irish Step Dance competition musician.
Both women collaborated on Gaughan’s Irish album, “Parting Glass,” which has received airplay on public radio stations in the U.S. and the U.K. It is available on Amazon and CD Baby.
The McNulty School of Irish Dance is one of the largest, most active dance schools in the Midwest. McNulty Dancers are recognized internationally as World, National and Midwest Regional Champions. Classes are available in Crystal Lake and throughout the Chicagoland area.
