This program provides entry level lifeguard candidates with the skills and knowledge necessary to prevent, recognize, and respond to emergencies and to provide care for injuries and sudden illnesses until advanced medical personnel arrive.
Students must be able to swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating front crawl and breast stroke. Students must also be able to swim and retrieve a brick from the bottom of the pool and tread water for 2 minutes.
This is a certification course. Students will be certified in standard first aid, CPR/AED, and lifeguarding skills through the American Red Cross.All classes must be attended for the entire length of time.
New this year – If submitting an application to be a lifeguard for the Cary Park District and the participant passes the class, 50% of the registration fee will be refunded if the job is accepted by the candidate and they remain employed with the Cary Park District for at least 60 days.
This course is for teens and adults age 15 years and older and meets Tuesday – Friday, May 28 – 31 from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm at the Community Center Pool, 255 Briargate Road, Cary. The registration fee is $200 and is accepted online at carypark.com or at the Community Center. Find more info here.
