Home Grown

The Home Grown Program

McHenry County Living‘s Home Grown is the county’s premier makers program championing and nurturing the local makers movement, setting the stage for McHenry County as a friendly place to create, and a destination for shopping handmade, homegrown, local and sustainable. A healthy makers economy means a more engaged, inspired and connected community. The program uses best practices in digital marketing to present these makers to audiences worldwide.

Home Grown Makers Fairs

Home Grown showcases these distinct makers through exceptionally marketed, well-attended makers fairs throughout the year.

At the fairs, attendees get the opportunity to meet the makers, watch demos and partake in hands-on activities, plus enjoy samples and purchase handmade items. The goal of Home Grown fairs is to be free and open to the public and all ages, and include special features like live music, raffles and goodie bags – it’s a higher caliber fair. Subscribe to our events page for schedule.

Home Grown Supporters

Supporters like 1776 Restaurant help keep the program affordable for makers on their way to growing their passion into thriving businesses in McHenry County; allow MCL to use high-visibility, professional marketing tools to share makers’ stories and promote the fairs; and allow for the fairs to remain an extraordinary experience for all involved. For more info, email; or call 815.900.8522.
