Huntley: Fast-Growing Town
Huntley: One of the fastest-growing towns in Illinois.
According to the Census’s American Community Survey, Huntley is among the top 10 Illinois cities that grew the most from 2010 to 2014 (with populations more than 5,000).
Huntley, with a footprint in southern McHenry and northern Kane counties, came in at No. 9 between Minooka (10) and Hampshire (8).
“This is the largest city to make the list, growing by over 18 percent in recent years,” explained Only In Your State.
Huntley is home to Del Webb Sun City, the largest active adult development in the Midwest, is home to approximately 9,000 residents.
The remaining Huntley subdivisions have a very high percentage of young families with children, according to Huntley First. The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning estimates Huntley’s population will rise to 58,997 by year 2040. Other key stats include the following:
- Population: 26,632
- Population 2010: 21,261
- Growth Rate: 18.53%
- Absolute Growth: 3,939
The population’s growth was the impetus for Centegra Hospital Huntley, a 384,000-square-foot, 128-bed hospital that opened in August 2016. It’s the third new hospital in Illinois in more than 35 years with room to triple in size if necessary.
It’s also a hot spot for golf. “Huntley is a golfer’s paradise, with two golf courses within city limits, so it’s understandable why people want to live there,” Only In Your State added.
