Indian Trail & Butch Hagele Beaches
71 Hilltop Drive & 228 Indian Trail, Lake in the Hills
Woods Creek Lake features two beaches that are great spots for swimming and paddle boarding. Beaches are free and not guarded; swim at your own risk.
Main & West Beaches
300 Lake Shore Drive & 2330 Lake Avenue, Crystal Lake
Both beaches are great spots to play in the sand, take a swim, or go for a boat ride.
Petersen Park Beach
McCullom Lake, McHenry
Guests can rent canoes, rowboats, paddle boats, kayaks, and power paddlers.
Stingray Bay Family Aquatic Center
12219 Main Street, Huntley
Featuring two, 138 feet long waterslides, a raindrop water feature, 6-lane competition pool, zero depth simulated beach entry, diving boards, sand volleyball, and a cafe open daily at 12 p.m.
Three Oaks Recreation
5517 Northwest Highway, Crystal Lake
Enjoy pristine waters, natural habitat, and incredible fishing. Rent rowboats, canoes, kayaks, sailboats, and paddle boards. Plan a picnic, and overlook breathtaking views of the water and lake islands. Make memories at the kid-friendly spray park, and eat a lakeside lunch at the outdoor dining patio.
Woodstock Water Works
1313 Kishwaukee Valley Road, Woodstock
Featuring a zero-depth recreation pool with a double-flume slide and play features in the shallow end, as well as an 8-lane competition/lap pool with one-meter and three-meter diving boards, a baby pool, two shelters, a tot play lot, concessions, lots of green space to picnic, and plenty of parking.
Chain O’Lakes State Park
8916 Wilmot Road, Spring Grove
Chain O’Lakes has Class A-Premium areas (Honey Suckle Hollow and Fox Den) with a total of 151 sites. The State Park is a water-oriented recreation area with outstanding opportunities for boaters, anglers and skiers.
Chicago Northwest KOA

McHenry County Conservation District Campgrounds
18410 Highway 14, Woodstock
The McHenry County Conservation District has five campgrounds (Rush Creek, Beck’s Woods, Marengo Ridge, Hickory Grove, and the Hollows), picnic areas, and shelters for your group outing or individual/family outdoor adventure. Thomas Woods is an individual camp site open May-October, weekends only.

Buffalo Park Forest Preserve
1 Algonquin Drive, Algonquin
Buffalo Park Forest Preserve is a beautiful, wooded area along a three-quarter mile stretch of Fox River shoreline. Hikers can take advantage of picnic areas, access to fishing, several parking areas, and restrooms.
McHenry County Conservation District

McHenry County Conservation District has over 105 miles of hiking trails throughout the county that are waiting to be explored. Wander through trees and prairies or along wetland ponds and creeks.
Moraine Hills State Park
1510 South River Road, McHenry
More than 10 miles of trails make Moraine Hills popular for hikers, skiers and cyclists, and provide one of the park’s main recreation features. Three trails, surfaced with crushed limestone, wind their way through the park and offer you exceptional scenic and wildlife viewing opportunities.

McHenry County Conservation District’s Cache Your Way Across McHenry County

In 2012, the MCCD started a recreational geocaching program called Cache Your Way Across McHenry County. Since then, each year the District has put out a new 15 cache series when completed earns you a geocoin. Mark your calendars for the “Cache Your Way 2019 Challenge” running July 27 through November 30.

Nippersink Creek Canoe Trail

Paddlers can launch a canoe or kayak from four locations: Keystone Landing in Wonder Lake, Pioneer Road Landing in Ringwood, Lyle C. Thomas Memorial Park in Spring Grove or Nippersink Canoe Base in Fox Lake. Nippersink Creek is a wilderness getaway that provides excellent wildlife watching; it’s never the same ride twice.
