Memorial Day Events
McHenry County Memorial Day remembrance events.
Memorial Day Ceremony, 10 a.m., American Legion Post 1231 will be hosting a memorial service at the Algonquin Cemetery proceeded by a short parade through downtown Algonquin proceeding southeast on N. Main Street, continue southwest on Front Street, and terminate at Riverfront Park, where a ceremony will be held at 10:30 am. Additionally, a helicopter will be on display (weather permitting) at Towne Park from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Memorial Day Parade, 10: 15 a.m., begins at Holy Cross Lutheran Church on First St. and Three Oaks Rd. and proceeds south on First St. and ends at the Cary Veterans Park.
Memorial Day Service, May 26, noon, we warmly invite our veterans, families, friends and neighbors to join us for a free, community program that includes fellowship (prayer by pastor), refreshments (barbecue), as well as participation from AMVETS and Warriors Watch Riders, Windridge Memorial Park, 7014 S. Rawson Bridge Road, Cary.
Memorial Day Parade & Cemetery Service, 11 a.m., parade units will assemble in Crystal Lake Central High School‘s parking lot at 10 a.m. Route is east on Franklin Avenue, North on Williams Street, and West on Woodstock Street to Union Cemetery.
Fox River Grove
Memorial Day Parade, 8:30 a.m., begins at Algonquin Road School and proceeds on Algonquin Road to South River Road to the baseball diamond along the Fox River in Lions Park.
Memorial Day Parade, 11 a.m., parade kicks off from the Municipal Complex (10987 Main Street) and travels west to the Town Square for a short ceremony. After the ceremony, everyone is invited into the Legion Hall for free sandwiches.
Memorial Day Ceremony & Parade, 9 a.m., spectators can view the opening half hour ceremony conducted on the river front patio of The Wave Waterfront Bar and Grill from the Chapel Hill Bridge. Spectator parking will be available at the Johnsburg State Bank and at the Community Club. A shuttle bus will make three trips starting at 8 a.m. from the Community Club to the ceremony site and remain at the site until the parade has completely embarked. The riverside ceremony will include, music, short commentaries, a helicopter wreath dropping and fly-overs. The ceremony may be viewed by boat however the river traffic will be stopped approaching the bridge from either side until after the wreath drop at 9:30 a.m.
Memorial Day Ceremony: 10 a.m., Veterans Memorial Park, 3400 Pearl St., McHenry, with a brief parade and placement of the ceremonial wreath at St. Patrick’s Cemetery and in the Fox River, concluding with taps and a rifle salute.
Memorial Day Service, 10:30 a.m., Stevens Park, Broadway and Main streets, Richmond.
Memorial Day Ceremony, 9 a.m., Horse Fair Park.
Memorial Day Ceremony & Parade, 10:30 a.m. ceremony, parade around the Square immediately after.
