Summer Meals Programs
Free meals to be offered for Crystal Lake youth this summer.
For the second year in a row, Crystal Lake youth 18 years and younger are invited to enjoy a free lunch this summer.
Sponsored by the Northern Illinois Food Bank with the support of volunteers and the Crystal Lake Park District, the summer food program provides free boxed lunches and milk to any child in Crystal Lake who is 18 years of age and younger. Lunches will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Ladd Park, 500 Coventry Lane in Crystal Lake. Fun activities will be provided and no registration is required.
The lunch program will be offered on weekdays beginning Tuesday, June 6 through Thursday, August 18. In case of rain, lunches will be served at Vineyard Church, 7105 Virginia Road in Crystal Lake (next to the CVS).
On Friday, June 9 there will be a kick-off taco party featuring tacos from Pablo’s Mexican Restaurant in Crystal Lake, as well as games and prizes. All adults and children are welcome.
Last summer, the free lunch program served 1,225 meals to approximately 250 children in Crystal Lake, averaging 22 meals per day. The program aims to fill a void in the summer months when school is not in session and lunch is not provided to qualifying children through the National School Lunch Program.
Northern Illinois Food Bank’s Summer Meal Program is offered in partnership with the USDA’s Summer Food Service Program and is administered by the Illinois State Board of Education.
